Concrete Batch Mix Plant

RMC or Ready mixed concrete or concrete is manufactured at a batching plant or factory. The mixed concrete is made to a set recipe, and then delivered to the desired workplace/worksite by the help of transit mixers. This results in ready mixed concretes which have a precise mixture, and this helps achieve specialty concretes to be developed and used on the construction sites.

Today, RMC plants are playing a very important role in building road and civil structures. These RMC batching plants offer unmatched rigidity and long life to the structure. Hence it is getting popular and the use of these concrete batching plants is increasing day to day.

Ready mixed concrete is more commonly known as RMC, is usually specifically made and delivered to the construction site as freshly pre-mixed in an unhardened or plastic state.

Ready Mix plants are available as stationary as well as mobile types. The portable RMC concrete batching plants are also accurate and work where mobility is needed. Mobile concrete batching plants are available in smaller capacities and are suited for the contractors who need mobility without compromising on accuracy.

RMC today is manufactured using computer controlled operations, the computers play a major part in the operations of these plants as all the controls are by a panel board which can store and customize recipes. There are many advantages of ready mixed concretes some of which are:

  • Less wastage of basic materials
  • Increased concrete quality
  • No labor required
  • Reduced noise and dust pollution
  • No storage space required for basic materials
  • Reduced required time

The ready mix plants start with capacities as low as 12 m3/hr. and they are very precise as far as their operations are concerned. These concrete batch mixing plants are extremely accurate and do the mixing with the help of a pan mixer or a pug mill type mixer unit. The capacity of the mixer can be increased or decreased to change the capacity of the plant.

Some disadvantages which can be noted are that: long distances may be an issue, site and site access may not be suitable for the weight of the truck, and the concretes lifespan may be affected after 2hrs of leaving the batching plant. Ad mixtures can be used to increase this life span where concrete has to be transferred over longer distances.  The first ready mixed concrete factory was built sometime in the 1930s, however the industry did not begin to grow until the 1960s, and it has expanded significantly since then.
